Dai Greene posted a lifetime best as he beat world number one Bershawn Jackson over the 400m hurdles at the IAAF Continental Cup in Croatia.

The Welshman has been running with renewed confidence since winning the gold at the European Championships in Barcelona earlier this summer and has been getting closer and closer to the American's towards the back end of the season.

And Greene showed what he was capable of this weekend has he clocked a time of 47.88 seconds to win the race, secure a lifetime best as well as break the stadium record, which was held by Kriss Akabisi.

Speaking to ESPN Greene said: "If anything my training has been getting even better since Barcelona. When I felt Jackson go past me so soon, I felt annoyed, but I had a feeling the race would pan out like that because he's done that several times throughout the season.

"I just tried to stick to my own race and when I changed down my stride pattern I felt really smooth.

"I've been fighting for a time like that all season, and it came when I least expected it to."

Bershawn has been the man to beat this season and came into the race off the back of six consecutive wins. And while the American may have been beaten on this occasion he still has the fastest time of the 2010 season at 47.32 seconds.

With this success under his belt Greene will be heading to the Commonwealth Games in Delhi the red hot favourite to add Commonwealth gold to his European title.
