As WBA World Heavyweight Champion, David Haye has firmly cemented himself in the British Boxing arena.

After beating the 7ft giant Nikolai Valuev in November 2009, Haye has successfully defended his title twice by defeating David Ruiz and Audley Harrison in 2010.

With the boxing world keen to see him take on the two heavyweight brothers Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko, Haye is close to clinching the ultimate dream of unifying the division.

But this month sees him step outside the ring in a rather different role, by leading the nationwide Quaker Oat So Simple Campaign to reward those who tirelessly give up their time to help the youth of today.

Originating from Bermondsey, London, Haye dreamed of emulating his hero Muhammad Ali by being crowned heavyweight champion of the world.

But the road to glory was long and David relied on the help of men and women who dedicated their time to give him the best shot at becoming the world’s champion.

Now he is keen to give something back to those unsung heroes that helped him get where he is today.

David Haye and Quaker are recognising and rewarding those crucial volunteers who give up their mornings to help others; whether it’s running training sessions for young sportsmen and women in the early hours or making sure the neighbourhood kids get to school on time.

In the following video The Hayemaker surprises a Hounslow resident with a boxing gym make over to reward the contribution that Irfan, a former boxer himself, has given to the local community.

Irfan has converted his own garage into a gym to offer local youngsters a place to learn to box and gives up his own time to train them.
