Now embarking on its fifth season, for 2011 the Extreme Sailing Series is bigger then ever, with a 9 stop Global tour planned for the Series.
The Series has become a benchmark in the sailing world, steadily growing and attracting the biggest names in the sport, from Olympic Champions to Round the World and America’s Cup sailors.
The competitor’s helm state of the art multihulls, on very demanding courses. The Series kicked off in the Sultanate of Oman, and since then has been to China, Istanbul, Boston and now it is coming to the UK, from the 6-12 August.
About the Extreme 40
11 high performance Extreme 40 catamarans with some of the most respected and highly recognized sailors in the world will go head to head racing on short sharp courses, for seven
days of full on racing in Cowes, on the Isle of Wight.
The Extreme 40 catamaran was designed with two things in mind; action and adrenalin! Capable of reaching speeds usually reserved to motorboats even in medium wind conditions, the boats can reach incredible speeds of up to 73kph!
The design is based on the fastest Olympic class boat, the Tornado. Tricky wind conditions combined with the level of competition inevitably lead to some spectacular crashes, capsizes and near misses, as we have seen so far this season!
