World and European Heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis, and reigning 400m Olympic champion Christine Ohuruogu, have launched the 2011 Aviva Series in Birmingham ahead of a busy athletics schedule next year.
With six separate meetings across the UK including Glasgow, Sheffield, Birmingham and London, the Aviva Series will make up a substantial part of many of British athletes’ preparations for the IAAF World Championships in South Korea next year, and will be essential in the lead up to the London 2012 Olympics as it allows them to gain valuable experience competing against the world’s best athletes, as well experience the thrill and expectation of performing in front of home crowds.
In an important year for athletics, the Aviva Series will also provide a great opportunity for supporters to get close to the athletes, be part of their preparations, and enjoy the action as the global athletics elite head to British shores.
It's been a difficult year for Christine who has struggled with injury all season - which saw her miss out on the European Championships and the Commonwealth Games.
But she will be looking to change her fortunes around in 2011 and get her hands on a 400m world title.
Jessica Ennis on the otherhand has had another fantastic season, which saw her capture the European heptathlon title.
2011 will see her attempt to defend her world crown as she begins her preparation for London 2012.
Jessica and Christine will also detail how their preparations are going for London 2012 and what they expect from the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
