Jessica Ennis

Jessica Ennis believes that the Olympic Stadium in London must be used for athletics in a bid to create a real legacy.

The London 2012 Games was all about inspiring a generation and Ennis along with the rest of out Olympians and Paralympians did exactly that during a fantastic summer of sport.

But now Ennis hopes that the Olympic Stadium will always be a home for British athletics.

Speaking to the Press Association Ennis said: "It's got to because of all those incredible memories that have been created there.

"It's great that we've got the World Championships in 2017. But, for me, it's so important to have that there as an athletics facility."

Ennis stormed to heptathlon gold in an unforgettable Saturday night that saw Mo Farah and Greg Rutherford also clinch gold.

The emphatic win made up for the disappointment of four years ago when she was forced to miss the Beijing Games because of injury.

Early reports may show that children have flocked to sports clubs after being inspired by our athletes but Ennis is calling on the government to prioritise sport in our schools.

"I think we would all like to see that because that's one of the most important things - funding and how it is put into school.

"I started in an academy, which was outside the school, but school sport is really important. You have to make it exciting and encourage kids and make it fun.

"When kids, especially girls, get to the age of 13 or 14, they don't particularly think sport's cool. It's not a girlie thing to do.

"Hopefully, we've changed those views here, But it's really important at school level."

Ennis was just one of the athletes who paraded through the streets of London yesterday as thousands of people turned up to celebrate the achievements of our Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
