Tyson Facing Jail Time For Felony Drug Possession

05-01-2007 06:48

Former heavyweight boxing champion MIKE TYSON was charged with felony drug possession and driving under the influence of drugs on Wednesday (03JAN07) and may be heading back to prison.

Tyson appeared in an Arizona courtroom and the prosecutor in the case wants him sent back to prison because of his criminal background.

Maricopa County Attorney ANDREW THOMAS says, "He has run out of second chances, at least in my book."

The 40-year-old was charged with two felonies for drug possession and two misdemeanour counts of driving under the influence of drugs. If convicted on all four charges, he could be sentenced to between two and seven-and-a-half years in jail.

The charges stem from his arrest Friday (29DEC06) in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he was pulled over after leaving a nightclub. According to court records, authorities found two bags of cocaine in his back pocket and another in a package of cigarettes from his car.

The boxer's most famous brush with the law was a rape conviction that landed him in jail from 1992 to 1995 for a 1991 sexual assault on a woman in an Indiana hotel room.
