Mo Farah ends his season with a win on home soil as won the men's two mile race at the Great North City Games.

The 10,000m world champion came out to race for the people of Gateshead as athletics swapped the stadium for the streets on Saturday.

It was the first race for Farah since his triumph in Daegu and he eased to a win in a time of just over eight minutes and a half minutes - much to the delight of the home crowd.

Speaking to Phil Jones for the BBC after the race Farah said: "I wanted to come back home and win.

"It's nice to see so many people come and show their support."

You've got to forget about this year and focus on next, I've got to stay injury free and keep doing what I am doing."

And there were plenty of British stars in action in Gateshead as Hannah England enjoyed a win the women's mile, a race where Jenny meadows came fourth while Harry Aikines-Aryeetey won the 100m in a time of 10.28 seconds.

The event saw Great Britain taking on America and there was plenty of U.S. talent on show as Carmelita Jeter won the women's 100m and Bernard Lagat cruised to victory in the men's mile.

Walter Dix and Jason Richardson were also in action for the USA as they won the 150m and the 110m hurdles respectfully.

And despite a valiant effort from out Daegu medallists the USA. were too strong and won the event 7-3.
