Oman Sail Extreme 40's: Meet The Crew

Oman Sail has two Extreme 40’s taking part in the 2011 Extreme Sailing Series. The Wave, Muscat return as reigning champions, and Oman Air have come on board as title sponsor of our second boat.
For the first time, both have a full-time Omani crew member on board, with Khamis Al Anbouri on The Wave, Muscat for the second year, and Nasser Al Mashari making his debut on the circuit aboard Oman Air.

Leigh McMillan: is one of the world's top Tornado sailors. With over nine years experience in the class, he has finished on the podium in some of the top international regattas, and represented Team GB at two Olympic Games, most recently in Beijing in 2008.
With the removal of the Tornado class from the Olympic Leigh has turned his head to the world of Extreme 40 and big boat sailing. He took the helm of Oman Red during the 2009 Extreme Sailing Series Asia, and won the series.
Khamis Al Anbouri: was one of the original seven recruits brought into Oman Sail when the project
first started. After two years of intense training Khamis earned a place as full time Bowman onboard The Wave, Muscat in 2010.
His efforts paid off, when his team won the Extreme Sailing Series 2010. Khamis has become a role model to many young Omanis and he hopes he can continue to inspire them throughout the 2011 Extreme Sailing Series
Kyle Langford: has shown potential from a very young age, winning the Australian Flying Ant Skiff Nationals at the age of ten.
He has continuously improved his sailing skills, going on to win Gold at the 2005 ISAF Youth Worlds in the multihull class and in 2007 he was voted Australian Youth Sailor of the year for his achievements. Kyle has been competing on the youth match racing circuit for several years.
Nick Hutton: is one of the most experienced Extreme 40 sailors in the fleet. He previously sailed
with double Olympic Gold medalist Shirley Robertson for two seasons as part of the J.P. Morgan Asset Management team and later onboard Team iShare.
Nick holds two world champion titles, six British national titles and three European titles in a range of competitive classes. Nick brought his experience to The Wave, Muscat in the 2010 Extreme Sailing Series Europe and helped them take the overall title.

Sidney Gavignet: A seasoned offshore sailor who has notched up four Volvo Ocean Race circumnavigations as well as setting a solo record for the fastest passage Round Britain and Ireland onboard the 100ft trimaran, Oman Air Majan. A newcomer to the circuit Sidney will be one to watch closely.
Nasser Al Mashari: 2011 see Nasser’s first season as full time crew member, when he joins the Oman Air team as Bowman. In 2010 Nasser worked hard, travelling with the Extreme 40’s to develop his skills, as well as taking part in the prestigious yacht race the Tour de France a la Voile, on the Farr 30 Yacht, the same boat that has just completed Sailing Arabia The Tour
David Carr: will join Oman Air, making this his fifth year of racing on the circuit. He was part of the Oman Sail team who won the overall Series in 2009. An extremely experienced sailor, David was one of the British America’s Cup Team Origin members in 2009, when he took up the position of Trimmer.
Kinley Fowler: has been sailing since he was 13 in a variety of keelboat and dinghy classes. He started Match Racing at 16, and won his first youth event that year in Wellington, New Zealand.
Since then he has dedicated a lot of his time to sailing, both match and fleet racing. He has been involved in the Mirsky Racing Team campaign throughout the 2007/2008 season. This is his first year on the Extreme 40 circuit.
