Phillips Idowu, Lisa Dobriskey and Christine Ohuruogu have all pulled out of next month's Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

The Games have been thrown into chaos with complaints over the standard of the athlete accommodation as well safety fears after footbridge at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium collapsed and the ceiling of the weightlifting venue fell in.

While Phillips, who is the current world, European and Commonwealth triple jump champion, has pulled out over safety fears, Ohuruogu and Dobriskey are both carrying injuries.

Writing on his Twitter the Phillips said: "Sorry people, but I have children to think about. My safety is more important to them than a medal."

"I understand people will be disappointed that I will not be competing. I am disappointed.

"If you know me as an athlete you will know these games mean a lot to me. It's the champs in which I won my first medal.

"All the press about bridges collapsing and 23+ people being hurt, floods and inhabitable living conditions, getting my daughter ready for school this morning and seeing all of that put me off. I can't afford to risk my safety in the slightest."

Ohuruogu was all set to try and defend her 400m title but injury continues to hamper her season and she has pulled out with a muscle problem.

Dobriskey won Commonwealth Gold four years ago over the 1500m has been struggling with a leg injury and has been told to rest by doctors.

Idowu, Ohurogu and Dobriskey join a whole host of British athletes such as Mo Farah and Jenny Meadows who will sit the Commonwealth Games out this year as they begin their preparation for next summer's World Championships.
