Phillips Idowu Ready To Take Olympic Gold

Phillips Idowu has revealed that he is concentrating on London 2012 as he is desperate to make up for the disappointment of Beijing.

Back in 2008 the Londoner came away from Beijing with a silver medal - but he went to China on the hunt for gold.

Speaking to BBC London 94.9 Idowu said: "Straight after Beijing I was thinking, 'OK I have to win the next Olympics now', because I was massively disappointed.

"Now I have got to the point where I can think about it."

"I do have everything else there is to win but I need to just complete the set and pick up that Olympic gold medal."

And while Idowu reveals that he has been questioned about the 2012 Olympics ever since London won the games he has only just started to think about the competition.

"It just went out of my mind and I just started thinking about the following year [2009] and winning the World Championships.

"From then its just been a year-to-year process, and the only time I would think about it was when I was asked by journalists.

"But now I have got to the point where, because I have a plan set to lead into the Olympics I can think about it.

Phillips made his only UK indoor appearance on Saturday as he competed in Birmingham on Saturday.

The world champion won the triple jump competition with a leap of 17.57m as he went head to head with Christian Olsson.
