William Hill have cut the odds on a number of contenders to light the Olympic Flame at the opening ceremony including the favourite Sir Steve Redgrave who has come in from 2/1 to 6/4.

Other contenders who have seen their odds tumble include Dame Kelly Holmes (16/1 to 10/1), Sir Chris Hoy (20/1 to 8/1) and Tom Daley (50/1 to 25/1).

"With the opening ceremony just over a year away, the great and good of Britain’s sporting past and present will be lining up for the honour of lighting the flame and the odds suggest that it is Sir Steve at the front of the queue," said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.
