Surrey Storm completed a hat-trick of Co-operative Netball Superleague wins on Saturday 30th January in six days with a comfortable 60-26 victory over Team Northumbria.

It was a more sedate outing on the court after the dramatic win over TeamBath the night before. Storm used the match to give the squad members a run out with Rhianne McHale and Chrissy Fitzgerald both making their debuts for the franchise.

The home side cruised to a 17-5 lead by the end of the first quarter, Michelle Hall netted 100%. The second quarter was one that the visitors can look back on with credit as they held back the Storm to lose only 10 goals to 8. C

aptain Natalie Connor felt there were positives to take from that fifteen minutes: "We set ourselves targets before we went on court after the heavy defeat in the first game of the season" she said.

"I think today the girls did really well. Surrey Storm have a lot of fabulous players and the quality is amazing. It's great to play against quality like that."

Surrey Storm however, dominated the later stages of the match - take a look at the statistics and you will see that the M'n'M formation in defence was particularly restrictive for Northumbria's goal attackers who made no attempt to score in the last 45 minutes of the game. Storm's Rhianne McHale missed only one shot in the whole of the second half.

The victory was the third in the week for Storm, including the big success over key rivals Hertfordshire Mavericks and TeamBath, and keep's the rookies firmly at the top of the table.

Head Coach Mary Beardwood will be taking a breather before pushing on; "It was an exhausting week, physically and mentally for the squad with three top games. I am pleased with our consistency after last night’s match which resulted in a very late finish for the girls".

She added; "To win the first quarter 17-5 was a credit to all of them and I was able to play lots of players today meaning all our squad members except Polini who is injured have now played".
