TeamBath were back in the groove of the Co-operative Netball Superleague with a comfortable win in the 'Varsity match' (of sorts) against Loughborough Lightning.

In a match described as fast pace and exciting, Bath netted one goal within two seconds of the centre pass as Jo Binns sent the ball on its way to be tipped on by wing-attack Sasha Corbin and dispatched by shooter Rosie Allison taking the side 11-5 ahead.

It was 14-9 at the end of the first quarter with the home-side seeing off a Lightning run of possession.

The defending champions are renowned for their surging play, that dominates games and the second quarter saw them land seven goals unopposed as the defence intercepted, turned over and reversed the passage of the ball.

Loughborough fought hard to stay in the game but by half time trailed 32-21.

Changes on both sides brought a new look to the court line-up in the second half and the visitors were working well, but Jo Harten was well marked and any danger from the England shooter came from nearer the circle edge than the post and Bath were in control by the time 45 minutes had been played leading by 14 goals at 45-31 and kept up their control of the match close out the match 56-40.

"We put in a consistent performance today", added Garland. "We won all four quarters and I’ve been wanting to do that for a long time.

"The intensity for both mind and body in the way we played today was enormous but the players know that they need to be able to sustain that level".

"We made some errors and we still have a lot to learn", said Loughborough captain, Harten. "Now we need to work on things in training and transfer them into our next match against Glasgow".
