The city of Manchester is set to play host to a Great Day of Sport with not one, not two, but three world class sporting events taking place on Sunday 15th May.

Over 38,000 amateur athletes - all competing for extraordinary reasons and aiming to raise huge sums for charity - will join the professionals on Sunday 15th May and there will be plenty of stars to spot along the way.

Celebrities including Nell McAndrew, former Corrie favourite Surrane Jones, X Factor winner Shayne Ward, former Hollyoaks pin-up Gemma Atkinson and the stars of Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing on Ice, will be taking part in the event along with Waterloo Road stars Jason Done and Will Ash.

The Bupa Great Manchester Run is just the start of the Great Day of Sport as attention switches from the City streets to the waterways of Manchester and the British Gas Great Salford Swim. British medalists from Beijing will join 2010 hopefuls Cassie Patten and Kerri-anne Payne and 2,000 amateur swimmers - along with celebrity faces - in this one mile open water swim.

The day will culminate in the Powerade ION4 Great City Games, a series of head to head sprint competitions featuring the world’s fastest athletes, including Britain’s Jessica Ennis, the World Heptathlon Champion.

But the Great Manchester Games are a special moment for Clare Bond and Kellie Humphreys - who will be taking part in the event.

Clare was due to run last year’s race but was called in at the last minute to undergo a life-saving liver transplant.

Now - exactly a year to the day since that transplant - Clare will line up at the start of the Bupa Great Manchester Run. She has only recently been able to run again and is determined to finish the race.

Her husband Paul is also running, he has lost over five stone in weight thanks to training for the event. So the race has been a great motivator for both husband and wife.

Kellie suffered from a very rare spinal syndrome that left her paralysed after the birth of her daughter.

But now 4 years on she's fit and despite all odds against her to walk she runs everyday and this charity Sands has touched mine and my families hearts and she'll be so proud crossing the finish line and raising so much money.

There will also be a special celebrity challenge involving famous faces from the hit BBC show Strictly Come Dancing and a host of other stars.

You can follow the action every step of the way with five hours of live coverage on BBC TWO.
