Tom Daley became a double Commonwealth champion as beat off the Olympic champion Matthew Mitcham to take the 10m platform gold medal.

The sixteen year old had already picked up a gold medal with Max Brick in the 10m synchro but both divers were back in action looking for was second medal.

Daley had looked impressive in the qualification round first this morning and it was always going to be a fight with the Australian Mitcham for the gold medal.

And the teenager got his hardest dives out of the way first, while the Aussie left them until the end. Tens across the board for his third dive before he took the lead in the fourth.

Mitcham left his most difficult dives for the final rounds and the nerves got to him in the final round as he dived for gold. But the nerves cost him as Daley won with a total of 538.35 points.

And Mitcham may be the Olympic champion but Daley won by an impressive 29.20 margin.

Speaking to the BBC after his competition Daley said: "I know Matt Mitcham has been on top form as he was the World Cup champion this year, so to come away with the gold and get ahead of him makes me so happy.

"It gives me so much confidence going into the off-season, ready to prepare four new dives for next year.

"Today has been a complete whirlwind. Coming back from an injury with only three-to-four weeks of 10m training, and being on the top of my game is brilliant"
