So eight becomes four as the men’s semi-final line-up has finally been decided and it’s a Wimbledon quarter final rematch between Nadal and Murray and defending champion Federer with play Djokovic in the second.
Nadal overcame the big hitting American Mardy Fish despite dropping the first, Fish powering to a 3-0 lead, but he went on to clinch the match in four sets, winning the fourth comfortably, the match ending at 2am.
It may not have been a 2am finish for Scot Andy Murray but he still had to battle to win in four sets against Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro.
Murray will now meet the world number one as he attempts to change the 5-0 head to head lead the Spaniard has against him. The pair last met the Wimbledon quarter final where Nadal outclassed the fast rising Scot sweeping him off the centre court.
But the hard courts can definitely be considered Nadal’s weaker surface but having lost just one match since May and collecting six titles he does start the semi final as the favourite.
Roger Federer vs. Novak Djokovic make up the second semi-final as Federer played his most impressive match of the tournament as he overcame qualifier Muller from Luxembourg winning in straight sets.
But it was third seed Djokovic who provided the biggest upset knocking out home favourite Andy Roddick, who has been playing some of his best tennis of this season, despite looking injured in his previous match.
