Tyson Gay stormed to 100m victory at the Stockholm Diamond League handing Usain Bolt his first defeat for two years.
The race was the big event of the night as Bolt, Gay and Asafa Powell were all set to head to head for the first time this season, however Powell pulled out of the event earlier in the week due to injury.
Gay and Bolt have both suffered with injury issues this year but both have been running well in recent weeks.
And the race didn’t disappoint as Gay clocked a time of 9.84 seconds to beat the World and Olympic champion by 0.13 seconds.
It was the American who got the best start out of the blocks and began to pull away from Bolt in the latter stages of the race to claim victory.
Speaking to the BBC after the race gay said: "It feels great to beat Usain but deep down inside I know he is not 100%. I look forward to beating him when he is 100%.
"Usain knows what his limitations are. His goal this year was to go undefeated, not set world records. He has plenty left in the tank.
"It was very important to beat someone like that for the fans and the sport. My body worked well today, I was excited and motivated."
And Gay will be in London next week for the Diamond League meeting at Crystal Palace.
