Tyson Gay has revealed that he wants to compete in the 4x400 for the London 2012 Olympics.

The American is the fastest man over 100 meters this year, beating World and Olympic champion Usian Bolt only a few weeks ago at a Diamond League meeting in Stockholm.

Gay, who won the 100m and 200m at the World Championships in 2007, took the Diamond League title on Friday night as he clocked another ten second time to see off competition from Nesta Carter.

It was Carter who made the better start as Gay was left in the blocks but the American powered through to win in 9.79 seconds with Carter finishing in second and Yohan Blake in third.

And while Gay is the man to beat over 100m at the moment he admits that he is already looking for another challenge as London 2012 draws ever closer.

Speaking to the BBC he said: "I want to make the 4x400m team and be part of a team with Jeremy Wariner and the others. I did run 44.89sec this year, but I can run faster in my next 400m races."

"Of course the 400m is a tough event, it makes you feel dizzy in the head and miserable in the stomach, but I want to try it. I'm a tough guy as well."
