Tyson Fury kept his winning run alive at the weekend as he saw off the challenge from American Nicolai Firtha in Belfast.

This bout comes just weeks after Fury saw of Dereck Chisora but he didn't have everything his own way despite the right being stopped in the fifth round.

It was all about the British and Commonwealth champion in the opening two rounds but the American hit back in the third.

A big punch in that round say Fury stagger but he regained his composure and the momentum as the fight continued into the fourth and fifth.

Firtha had had just two weeks notice for the fight and he was knocked back and forth in the fifth until the referee called time on the bout - much to the disgust of the blooded American.

Speaking to Channel Five after the bout the boxer said: "I had to take a good shot there and come back. It was an action-packed fight and I really enjoyed it. He was taking some tough shots, and in the end he took too many.

"I've got to keep working the jab, keep working the right hand behind it, and keep improving my defence. I'm learning, you don't become a finished product overnight.

"He was seconds away from being blasted out of there, I caught him with a swinging right hand and he was gone.

"Povetkin hit him with every shot in the book, but I've been in there and stopped him with a stinging right. It shows big men are big men and little men are little men. Stay out of my way."

With that win Fury takes his unbeaten run to sixteen consecutive fights - and talk of a fight with one of the Klitschkos rumbles on.
