The inaugural London Surf Festival is set to make a splash on July 16 with competitions, live music, food and beach culture flooding the Thames and bringing the coast to the capital for everyone to enjoy.

The event will also support its nominated charity Lifeworks, which introduces hundreds of children with autism and other learning difficulties to the thrill of surfing on beaches around the country.

Guests at the festival will be able to explore an intimate surf show brimming with the latest clothing and board merchandise alongside the VeeDub wonderland where our batch of gleaming VW vans will be available for rent or sale.

The main event will kick off at midday, when an army of intrepid paddlers will battle it out on the Thames, between Battersea Power Station and Vauxhall Bridge in team relay and Stand Up Paddle Boarding sprint competitions. Spaces are still available.

As one of Britain’s fastest growing water sport, Stand Up Paddle Boarding is beloved by celebrities from Pierce Brosnan to Jennifer Aniston,  the combination of balance and paddling is an excellent way to get in shape.

No matter what your skill level this sport is easily picked up by and allows anyone with a strech of water nearby to bring a slice of the coast into your urban backyard.

Why not come and try it for yourself on Saturday 16th July at Westminster Boating Base, Grosvenor Road, where all equipment and tuition will be provided for free.

For those who want to get further immersed in surf culture, land based lessons will be available for novices keen to complete their first pop-up through to aficionados who just want to fine tune their skills.

If that isn't a big enough draw why not come down and enter the competition to win a surf holiday to either Sri Lanka, Portugal or Polzeath and you could even walk away with your own liquid shredder Stand Up Paddle Board.

Once you’ve nailed how to grab a wave, visit Sourced Food Market’s variety of stalls, providing an array of delicious food and drink, and picnic on the riverbank amongst the sounds of some of the capital’s finest undiscovered musical talent from their live music stage.
