The nation is being treated to a taste of an Olympic sport this summer as Volleyball England launches its Go Spike! campaign, giving adults across the country the chance to try volleyball, completely free of charge and right on their doorstep!
Whether you’re a regular player or have never experienced the sport before, you’re in for a treat; Volleyball England is urging everyone to get involved in the complimentary Go Spike! sessions, grab a friend and dig volleyball!
The action packed sessions will be running at a variety of music, entertainment and charity events across England between June and September.
Volleyball England is launching the campaign to get more people involved in the buzz of sport, which is one of the top three most played in the world.
In turn, the campaign will help to get the nation feeling fit and fabulous through social, high energy and, most of all, fun and flexible sessions.
As a sport, Volleyball, Beach Volleyball and Sitting Volleyball, the Paralympic version of the game, will all feature at the London 2012 Games.
One of the Go Spike! aims is to encourage people of any ability to get involved, get excited and follow the sport to 2012 and beyond.
Lisa Wainwright, CEO of Volleyball England said: "Over half a billion people play volleyball worldwide, it is incredibly easy to play and, whatever level you play at, it can enhance your life.
"Volleyball improves fitness, coordination, strategic thinking and is very sociable; it’s a great way to meet new people or have fun with friends.
"It is our aim that Go Spike! will educate the nation on what benefits volleyball can offer and help to get people outdoors and enjoying sport this summer. Just give it a go - you’ll be hooked!"
Lynne Beattie, Captain of the Great Britain Women’s Volleyball team said: "Go Spike! is a great opportunity for the nation to get involved in one of the most exciting, fast paced sports around.
"It’s a great sport to play outdoors in the sunshine; I began playing volleyball on holiday and became a convert - now I am captaining for Great Britain!"
