On Monday 11th February 2008, 8 talented young golfers aged 5 – 12 years played in the launch of the HSBC Wee Wonders Open Golf Championships, the UK’s leading golf competition for grassroots talent. The children took part in a coaching clinic with Monty, a short skills competition and a round of golf on the par 3 nine hole golf course.
Held at Dukes Meadows Golf Club in West London, each competitor had been chosen to represent their region: Scotland, Wales, Midlands, North England, South of England, West of England and East of England.
The Wee Wonders Open Golf Championships attracts over 3000 aspiring golfers each year. Played on par 3 courses throughout Great Britain and Ireland, the Championships allow competitors to play 36 shots and place their flag where the final shot finishes, with the winners being those achieving the greatest distance around the course.
