Tiger Woods has revealed that he wants to win more major titles that Jack Nicklaus.

The former world number one has already won fourteen titles and is now just four behind Nicklaus' record of twenty titles.

He told BBC Radio 5 live's Iain Carter: "It's the highest benchmark there is.

"It took Jack over 20 years...I'm only 34. I have a lot of great years ahead of me. It's a matter of just being confident and getting better."

"I go into every tournament to try to win," he said. "There's no sense of teeing up if you're not there to win.

"That's why we're all here. We don't come just to show up, we come to win golf tournaments and that has never changed."

Woods' 281 week reign as world number one came to an end on Monday as Lee Westwood toppled the American to become the first European to hold the top spot since Nick Faldo.

However Woods could return to number one should he win the HSBC Championship this week, where he has gone head to head with Westwood.

And the American admits that winning is still what motivates him. "Just Ws. I've always enjoyed winning, ever since I was a junior.

"There have been a lot of years where I have won and it's been fun. It's been enjoyable going against the best players. We have a great field here this week and that's the challenge of it."
