Gundogan happy with City debut

Summer signing Ilkay Gundogan was delighted to make his debut for Manchester City after making a return from injury.

The midfielder joined City during the summer from Borussia Dortmund but had to wait for a debut due to a knee injury, which also saw him miss Euro 2016 with Germany.

Gundogan was handed a start against Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League on Wednesday as City secured a 4-0 win and the 25-year-old was happy to finally be able to join his new team-mates on the pitch.

"I am very happy, it was a special day," he said. "I am very happy to be back, back with the guys and to be back on the field. I think it was quite a good start for me."

City have made an impressive start to the season having won all four of their Premier League fixtures to date, and Gundogan hopes they can continue their fine form.

He added: "It has been a perfect start for us, with great performances over the last few weeks and some very special games. I hope it will go on like that.

"Tough challenges are waiting for us, but we are all excited to prove ourselves and do our best."
