Casey Stoner suffering from anaemia

Casey Stoner is to continue competing in the MotoGP championship after tests revealed he has been suffering from anaemia and an inflamation of the stomach lining.

The tests were carried out because the Australian rider's fitness has been plagued by a mystery illness recently. Despite this Stoner has managed to remain in touch with the leading pack in the title race, and is currently lying in third.

Stoner told the press that he was still not 100% but his biggest problem was now his ribs which remain painful following a crash during  qualifying at Laguna Seca.

The Ducati rider has been in pain and discomfort during the Grand Prix races at Catalunya, Asssen and Laguna Seca,but as a mark of he quality he still achieved third, third and fourth respectively.

The 23-year-old has also been plagued by a recurring problem with his left wrist, which he broke in 2003 an injury that required further surgery in 2008 after it failed to heal properly.

Stoner is sits 16 points behind championship leader Valentino Rossi of Italy, with Jorge Lorenzo second.

The next round of the championship takes place at Sachsenring in Germany Saturday 19th July
