Jenson Button has admitted that he wants to drive for McLaren next season.
At the moment the 2009 champion's future for next season is not yet certain as he is yet to sign a new contract.
Button is the only driver of the three big teams, Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari who has not confirmed his seat for next year.
But Button reveals that he is waiting for McLaren as he wants to stay with team.
Speaking to Sporting Life Button said: "Well, if he (Whitmarsh) takes up the option..."
"All he has to do is say yes, and I will say yes because I want to be here next year.
"It's up to the team as to when they approach me, but for me I'm the happiest I've been with the car."
After a third place finish in Spa at the weekend, behind Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber, Button has moved up into fourth in the world championship fight - three points ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton.
There were mixed fortunes for McLaren at the Belgian Grand Prix as Hamilton crashed out of the race.
