Randy de Puniet looks set to miss the Czech MotoGP on 16 August.

In a setback following Randy de Puniet’s brilliant ride and podium in MotoGP’s farewell to Donington Park at the British Grand Prix where he finished in third place behind Andrea Dovizioso and Colin Edwards the Frenchman has suffered a setback in a private training motocross accident.

The LCR Honda rider, 28, has already had surgery to have a pin inserted after suffering the injury while out riding with personal trainer Yves Demaria, a former motocross rider.

Puniet told the press that unfortunately I had a fall and the impact on the ground caused a fracture of the left ankle,

De Puniet says he is still hoping to be fit for the next race of the championship, at Brno on 16 August.

The Frenchman currently lies eighth in the championship standings on 74 points, five points adrift of seventh-placed Marco Melandri.

De Puniet will be particularly keen to race at Brno to build on the momentum from his surprise third-place at the British Grand Prix.
