Valentino Rossi has undergone successful operation to remove rod from right leg
Valentino Rossi underwent a relatively minor operation at Cattolica’s Cervesi hospital to remove the rod that was inserted in his right tibia following his practice crash at the 2010 Mugello GP.
With the injury is now completely healed the decision was made to remove the offending healing aid.
The operation went well, and the Ducati Team rider is expected to be ready for the second winter test in Malaysia, scheduled for February 28th to 1st March.
The Mugello crash in the summer of 2012 was the most serious that the Ducati rider Valentino Rossi had suffered in his illustrious MotoGP career and the subsequent lay-off ended his coveted record of having never missed a Grand Prix in his career.
Rossi was riding for Yamaha Factory Racing at the time.
The cause of the crash was put on a cold rear Bridgestone tyre after the nine-times world champion had slowed on track to avoid giving Hector Barbera a so called 'tow'..
The lay off put an end to his 2010 title challenge, the title finally going to his Yamaha co-rider Jorge Lorenzo. The accident also pusuaded Rossi to end a distinguished and successful career with the factory Yamaha team and move on to Ducati.
