Valentino Rossi’s Mugello winning record comes to an end - next up Catalunya
Casey Stoner
Casey Stoner leads the MotoGP standings following last weeks win in Italy. The win had put an end to Valentino Rossi's seven-year winning run in Italy Rossi finished third behind Fiat Yamaha team mate Jorge Lorenzo.
In other news Sete Gibernau is confident he will be fit to return for the Cataluyna MotoGP following recovery from surgery on the collarbone he broke in practice at the French MotoGP.
Second in the standings Jorge Lorenzo will get a second chance to undertake a MotoGP race next weekend in Montmeló, after missing out on the 2008 Sunday proceedings due to a practice session crash. The Spaniard is in high spirits ahead of his home race, but is still concious of necessary improvements in order to maintain his title challenge.
The Fiat Yamaha rider has been on the podium at all but one race so far this year, and has the added motivation of making amends for a fall at his last home round at Jerez. Since that incident, Lorenzo has kept up his points tally with victory and a second place from the last pair of races.
Meanwhile Toni Elias is hoping that a return to home siol will end his poor run of results. The Spaniard has been having a difficult time so far on his return to the Honda Gresini team and hopes home advantage at Barcelona will spur him to success.
Valentino Rossi meanwhile will hope to move on from the disappointment of third place at the Gran Premio d’Italia Alice, Rossi said after the race he had made a good decision on when to come in and change this time but unfortunately the team decided to go with the harder front tyre for the second part of the race and that was a disadvantage for the riegning world champion, especially at the beginning.
Rossi went on to say he was slow in the first two laps on slicks and was thinking about the Le Mans crash. The front choice wasn’t right and even though he found a good pace it wasn’t enough to win.The team will be hoping they get the tactics right at Catalunya
