MotoGP Rossi Extends Yamaha Contract

Rossi extends contract at Yamaha

MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi has ended speculation over his immediate future with a new one-year deal at Yamaha.

Rossi, 27, extended his contract that runs out at the end of this season and will stay with the Japanese outfit for the new era of 800cc racing in 2007.

"I believe I've made the right choice", said the five-time world champion.

"I'm very pleased to be staying with Yamaha next year. I am very excited about the challenge of a new class of racing with Yamaha next year."

Yamaha were also delighted by the decision of Rossi, who has been having a hard time in MotoGP this season.

The Italian is currently eighth in the standings with just two wins in six races following his triumph on home turf in Mugello last week.

After deciding against joining F1 with Ferrari Rossi is looking foward to developing the next generation of bikes but it seems that Yamaha have now managed to make their current machine competetive again.

Yamaha were quoted as saying they are confident that Valentino can recover from an unlucky start to his title defence, following his win in Mugello last weekend.
