Manchester United are reported to be lining up a move for Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez as a replacement for Daley Blind.
Reports are rife that Reds boss Jose Mourinho is not convinced by Blind and is looking to move him on at some point before drafting in a replacement.
Gimenez has been outstanding for Atleti since joining them from Danubio in 2013 and his performances in the heart of defence have caught the eye of Mourinho.
The Reds boss sees the Uruguay international as the perfect partner for Eric Bailly at Old Trafford and could launch a move when the transfer window re-opens in January.
Gimenez's age is also very appealing for Mourinho, who believes the 21-year-old's best days have yet to come.
United also need further reinforcements in defence following the news Phil Jones has suffered yet another injury setback and will be allowed to leave if any clubs make a move in the transfer window.
