Npower have been working in Sheffield Hallam University with experts to establish the sheer volumes of energy over the entire dramatic rugby World Cup tournament. The World Cup is nearly over, with the final being tomorrow (20Oct) and England going for a record of winning two World Cups in a row.

France will hold the exciting rugby final where England and South Africa will put all their energy into winning the cup as they battle it out at 8.00pm tomorrow evening. Npower have estimated that the expected energy output being the equivalent required to:
Keep 56 x 42” LCD televisions running through out the final
Cool down nearly 1,400 cans of beer to 4 degrees C
Light an energy saving bulb for fifty four and a half days
Take 800 people around the London eye almost 63 times
Make nearly 482 mugs of tea

The power of the scrum alone in this battle of the Titans will leave a lot resting on the shoulders of the front row, with scientists calculating that every metre our boys push the springboks; they will be generating a force of nearly one tonne.

10 scrums is the average amount in an 80 minute game, scientists have calculated that the energy from the scrums alone could power an energy saving light bulb for over four and a half hours.

The 48 games in the rugby World Cup six week tournament would produce enough energy to:
Make over 23,000 cups of tea
Cool down 67,200 cans of beer to 4 degrees C
Keep 2,688 x 42” LCD televisions running through out the final

Do you think with our teams duties being over next week; maybe we should harness their energy potential to help power the UK?
