Sale display disappoints Diamond

Sale Sharks director of rugby Steve Diamond was left disappointed by his side's display in their 30-3 Premiership defeat to Bath.

The Sharks went into Friday's encounter at the Recreation Ground on the back of an impressive 34-30 victory over Leicester Tigers last weekend, but tries from Matt Banahan, Kahn Fotuali'i and Kane Palma-Newport saw them slump to a third league defeat of the campaign.

Diamond conceded his side never really got going against their impressive opponents, who he believes fully merited their victory.

He said: "We made life a little too easy for them, and that's not the Sale we're used to and we're disappointed with that. We reached some highs last week (against Leicester Tigers), but I don't think we really got out of bed today.

"I think we were error-strewn really. Our kicking game wasn't very good, and Ford's was outstanding. We got beaten convincingly in all areas, so I've got no complaints."

Sale are next in action when they get their European Rugby Champions Cup campaign underway against Scarlets next Saturday, and Diamond admits the pressure is on ahead of their clash with the Welsh side.

He added: "I think it's a fantastic competition that we've worked so hard to qualify for, but Europe certainly ups the pressure for everyone. We travel to Scarlets this week which will no doubt be very difficult."
