Sane and Kompany could start at Swansea

Vincent Kompany could make his first appearance of the season as Man City begin their defence of the EFL Cup at Swansea on Wednesday.

The Belgium defender has not played since suffering a thigh injury in the Champions League semi-final loss to Real Madrid in May.

Midfielder Yaya Toure has been excluded by manager Pep Guardiola while playmaker David Silva remains doubtful with a leg injury.

Midfielder Fabian Delph is also injured while strikers Sergio Aguero and Nolito are both suspended.

Kelechi Iheanacho should get the nod up front with Leroy Sane also pushing for a start while Fernando is available once again after injury.

Man City squad: Bravo, Caballero, Gunn, Maffeo, Zabaleta, Sagna, Kompany, Stones, Otamendi, Adarabioyo, Kolarov, Clichy, Angelino, Gundogan, Fernandinho, Fernando, De Bruyne, Navas, Sterling, Sane, Garcia, Diaz, Iheanacho.
