Striker to snub City for Real

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says Man City made contact in the summer but the Dortmund star would prefer a switch to Real Madrid.

The BVB striker was heavily linked with moves to both the Etihad Stadium and the Bernabeu during the summer transfer window but in the end a move failed to materialise.

City boss Pep Guardiola did add to his forward options with the captures of Nolito and Leroy Sane, while he also raided BVB for midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

There has been speculation the Premier League leaders could target Aubameyang again in the future and the 27-year-old has confirmed there was contact but "nothing concrete" from City in the last transfer window.

The 27-year-old also reiterated his desire to join Real at some stage in his career, meaning City are likely to miss out should Los Blancos decide to make a move for Aubameyang next year.

"It's true, there was contact," he told Onze Mondial magazine when asked about City. "My father held talks with the club, but in the end there was nothing concrete.

"I think there was interest [from Real Madrid], but it was more distant so I didn't get too carried away."

On his Real ambitions, he said: "I was asked in an interview: 'What is the club of your dreams?' I replied: 'Real is the club of my heart and I made a promise to my grandfather to play there one day, I hope it will happen.'

"So it's just a target, I still have time. If they want me, they will come."
