Aggressive Play Can Win Murray Slam Says Henman

Tim Henman has backed Andy Murray to lift a Grand Slam title but believes that the Scot needs to play more aggressive tennis.

Murray reached the final of the Australian Open back in January, his second Slam final, but fell to Roger Federer in straight sets.

From then Murray's season was up and down as he crashed out of the French and U.S. Open early but reached his second consecutive semi-final at Wimbledon, losing to eventual champion Rafael Nadal.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Henman said: "He knows what he has to do but it is easier said than done. His game style is the issue - he has got all the shots.

"When you look at the tournaments he won in Shanghai and Toronto, and his performance to get to the final in Australia, he is pro-active - he is making things happen.

"Sometimes he gets a little reactive and gets further behind the baseline. He knows when he plays Nadal he has to be aggressive or be hit off the court so plays aggressively and has had some great matches.

"And I would like to see him do that against the lesser players so it becomes second nature against the top guys.

"But I think he appreciates that and he is certainly improving. Practice makes permanent and he can win a Slam one day."

Murray saw him slip to number five in the world after the Paris Masters in November but a good ATP World Tours Finals at the O2 last week saw him reclaim the world number four spot.
