Andy Murray overcame his wobble against Roger Federer earlier in the week to see of David Ferrer last night and reach the semis of the  ATP World Tour Finals.

The Scot looked a shadow of his former self on Tuesday as he was swept aside by the former world number one but he looked in much better form last night as he saw off the Spaniard in straight sets.

Ferrer was making his first appearance at the O2 with this tournament and had lost his two opening matches.

But it was the Spaniard who made the better start as he broke Murray in his opening service game to open up a 2-0 lead.

And while there may have been some worries as to Murray’s form when he went down that break everyone need not have worried as Murray blasted back to take six games on the bounce and the opening set 6-2.

The pair traded breaks at the beginning of the second set but Murray had too much pace and power for Ferrer and sadly the match never really set alight.

But Murray won the last five games of the second set, breaking Ferrer twice, to wrap up a straightforward 6-2 6-2 and reach the semi finals.

Speaking to the ATP after the match Murray said: "I think it's great. All the best players in the world are here.

"It's not an easy thing to do. I qualified the first time I played it. Last year was obviously tough for me.

“But this year I've won two matches against very good players. I'm glad I got through to the semis."

Murray qualifies behind Federer, who tops Group B, and he will now face the winner of Group A - which will be decided today.

Rafael Nadal will face Tomas Berdych - should Nadal win he will top the group and face Murray tomorrow.

Should Berdych win he will be level on two wins out of three alongside the world number one.

This evening Novak Djokovic will be in action against Andy Roddick and he needs a win to keep his hopes of securing his place in the final four alive.

But he could progress on just one win, should Roddick be victorious and Berdych lose, as all three players will be on one win.
