A superb performance from Andy Murray saw the world number three breeze into the second round of Wimbledon.
The Scot saw of Viktor Troicki in straight sets 6-2 6-3 6-4 in an impressive display that sees the excitement around Murray reach fever pitch.
The odds didn’t look good for Troicki, who was expected a good challenge, after only taking one game of Murray when they played at the Miami Masters earlier this year.
And when Murray, the only Brit left in the draw, broke to take a 3-2 lead Troicki, who had never played on Centre Court before, just crumbled never again regaining control of his game.
With that break Murray had all but sealed the first set. And it was once again a confident serving performance from the twenty one year old as bossed his opponent around the court and after just twenty seven minutes he was one set to the good.
Unfortunately for Troicki the second set didn’t get much better for him as Murray broke in the Serbian’s opening service game to take a two love lead.
But Troicki never looked comfortable on the grass as he appeared to run out of ideas and had resigned himself to defeat.
Murray didn’t let up as his impressive service, definitely one of the most improved parts of his game over the last eighteen months, kept firing pinning Troicki to the back of the court.
With great fitness, a strong forehand, a real presence around the net it’s hard to see where the chinks in his armour and he is beginning to live up to the hype as he secured the second set with minimum fuss.
The Centre Court crowd were behind there man but there was support for Troicki as he got his first sniff of a break point in the fourth game of the third set, a chance that was quickly snuffed out by Murray.
From that moment on Troicki looked desperate to just get off the court disappointed that he couldn’t put up more resistance to Murray.
After one hour and thirty six minutes under the greying skies, yes the roof was being readied but we will have to wait a little longer until we see the first match underneath the newest addition to Centre Court, Murray put his opponent out of his misery as he sealed the match in straight sets.
He will play Stanislas Wawrinka on Monday as he tries to make it through to the quarter finals. After the dominant display on Centre Court this evening it’s hard to see who is going to stop his march to the final!
