Andy Murray made it to his first Wimbledon semi-final yesterday by seeing off former world number one Juan Carlos Ferrero.

It was a much easier match for the Scot after Monday's late night encounter with Stanislas Wawrinka, which so easily could have ended in defeat, as his game, in particular his serve, improved beyond recognition.

He swept passed the former French Open champion Ferrero in straight sets 7-5 6-3 6-2 and now sets
up a semi-final encounter with American Andy Roddick.

In the scorching heat of Centre Court Murray resumed his campaign against the experienced Spaniard and it was a tense opening few games.

Ferrero, who Murray beat just a couple of weeks on his way to lifting the Queen's title, had to recover from 0-30 down in his opening service game as well as facing in a break point in the second.

It looked like Murray was in the mood was a straight sets win but he was unable to get another break point until the end of the set.

And although he missed the first break point a double fault from Ferrero gave Murray the first set 7-5.

The Centre Court crowd, many of whom had queued for forty eight hours to get a ticket, were right behind the British number one but were momentarily silenced as Ferrero broke and raced into a lead.

But Murray regained his composure and turned on some form that makes him a real contender as he broke twice and dominated on his own serve to soon wrap up the second set.

Into the third set and Ferrero's resistance began to fade as Murray raced through to wrap up the third 6-2.

It was a very impressive performance from the world number three as he becomes the first British man since Tim Henman to make a Wimbledon semi-final.

But it's great to see Juan Carlos Ferrero back to some form and though he is at number seventy in the world at the moment he should see his ranking rise.

It was a good day all round for the Murray family as Jamie Murray reached the semi-final of the mixed doubles with his partner Liezel Huber.

The pair were due to face Lukas Dlouhy and Iveta Benesova in the quarter finals but have been handed a free passage to the semi's after they were forced to withdraw through injury.

Murray and Huber bagged their quarter final spot yesterday after seeing off Mike Bryan and Bethanie Mattek-Sands, the sixth seeds, in three sets.

After taking a tight first set, that went to a tie break, the American seeds powered back in the second to level the match. But Murray and Huber battled back to dominate in the third to secure the win 7-6 (9-7) 4-6 6-3, despite Huber needing treatment for heat exhaustion.

They will have to wait to see who they will play in the semi-final.
