Andy Murray Wins Montreal Masters

Andy Murray saw off a strong performance for Juan Martin Del Potro to win the Montreal Masters.

Del Potro was playing in his first Masters 1000 final but the Argentinean didn't appear to be suffering with nerves as he took the first set in 6-7 as he dominated the tie-break 4-7.

And it looked like he was going to take the title in the second set as Murray failed to take advantage of the break points that came his way.

Just a game from the title Murray seemed to find his serve and he forced the set to a tie break. But Del Potro called for the trainer to treat a shoulder injury.

But that didn't break Murray's rhythm as he broke to lead 5-3 in the tie break before wrapping it up to level the match at a set a piece.

Murray was in full flow going into the final set as he swept the Del Potro challenge aside to win (4-7) 7-6 (7-3) 6-1 and claim his fifth title of the year.

His performance in Montreal has seen him overtake Rafael Nadal, who is still on his way back from a knee injury, as the world number two.

Murray is the first player other than Nadal and Federer to hold one of the top two positions since Lleyton Hewitt in 2005.

Murray has to defend his Cincinnati Master title this week.
