Andy Murray Powers To Win

Andy Murray put in an impressive performance on the Arthur Ashe court last night to secure a straight sets win over home favourite Taylor Dent.

Dent won an epic five set match on Friday night to Ivan Navarro as he returned to Flushing Meadows for the first time in four years after being plagued by a back injury.

But Murray was unfazed by the amount of crowd support for the American as he came out all guns blazing as he broke Dent in his opening service game.

But Dent fired back to level the opening set at 2-2 and it looked like it was going to be a hard fought match as Murray once again struggled with his first serve percentage.

The errors also crept into Dent's game and Murray pounced to take the first set 6-2. Into the second and the Scot's serve improved dramatically which allowed him to relax into the match and the rest of his game as Dent had no answers for his impressive play.

With his serve in full swing he powered to the second set, dropping just two games. But then he threw Dent a lifeline as his serve once again began to fail him.

Despite his falling first serve percentage Dent was unable to take advantage of Murray's much weaker second serve. But Murray dug deep and piled the pressure onto Dent's serve as he closed out the match in straight sets 6-3 6-2 6-2.

Speaking to the BBC after the match Murray said: "I view the returns being as important as the serves," said Murray afterwards. "So I practice it loads and have my coach serve at me from just behind the service line.

"Obviously I returned well today, and I always like it when guys come forward against me and serve and volley."

he will now face Marin Cilic in the last sixteen who beat Denis Istomin 6-1 6-4 6-3.
