Andy Murray has pulled out of next week Japan Open with a wrist injury.
The British number one has been plagued with problems since the U.S. Open, he played down the impact his injury had on his early exit at Flushing Meadows.
Despite the problems Murray took his place in the Davis Cup squad in a bid to save team GB from relegation.
He played both singles rubbers as well as the doubles but was unable to prevent Great Britain from losing the tie.
But three matches in three days has aggravated the injury, which is possibly tendinitis, resulting in Murray taking the decision to rest.
The world number three wants to be ready of the ATP Tour Finals, which take place at the end of November in London.
Murray will join Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Novac Djokovic, the defending champion, and U.S. Open winner Juan Martin del Potro at the O2.
A statement on Murray's website said: "Andy is disappointed not to be competing in Japan, but on the basis of medical advice, he has decided to give his left wrist further time to recover.
"His injury is improving on a daily basis and Andy is very close to resuming full-training. The wrist will be assessed again this weekend."
Murray had trouble with his wrist back in 2007, forcing him to miss both the French Open and Wimbledon.
