Andy Murray Seeded Third At Wimbledon

Andy Murray has been announced as the number three seed for the Wimbledon Championships which get underway on Monday.

The British number one has had a great year so far winning the Master title in Miami and clinching his first grass trophy at Queens last week.

He also had a good run at the French Open making it to the quarter finals for there first time in his career, losing out on a semi final spot to Fernando Gonzalez.

Despite being considered a real threat at SW19 the twenty two year old Scot is still seeded behind world number one and defending champion Rafael Nadal and five time winner Roger Federer.

There may have been concerns surrounding the fitness of Nadal but after coming through a tough practice session on Tuesday the Spaniard looks set to defend his title.

He will play at the Hurlingham Club in London over the next couple of days to test his knee before making a final decision as to whether he will step out on Centre Court on Monday.

Despite never getting past the third round at Wimbledon it’s Russian Dinara Safina that tops the women’s seeds after an impressive season so far.

Safina won a string of titles on the clay, including a win in Madrid, and making two grand Slam finals so far this year, losing to Serena Williams at the Australian Open and Svetlana Kuznetsova in Paris earlier this month.

Serna William is the number two seed while sister Venus, who is the defending champion, is just behind at number three.
