GB To Face Lithuania In Davis Cup

Great Britain's first tie in Group two of Davis Cup will be against Lithuania.

Team GB crashed out of Group One at the weekend to Poland, despite world number three Andy Murray   being part of the squad.

Andy Murray played despite injury and won both of his single rubbers but after losing the doubles Dan Evans was unable to see off either Jerzy Janowicz or Michal Przysiezny, failing to win a single set, and Great Britain lost  the tie 3-2.

However the team's captain John Lloyd was upbeat and told the BBC: "Playing in Group Two will give some of our younger players the opportunity to perform on the international stage and gain valuable experience at that level.

"They will learn to play in that environment and they will learn to win. The team are now looking forward to moving up the groups."

While Andy Murray's future with Davis Cup remains uncertain Lloyd has the likes of Josh Goodall, Chris Eaton and Jamie Ward, who missed the tie at the weekend through illness, who all need to gain experience.

It's yet unknown whether it will be a home or away tie, an away match would make Murray's involvement less likely, and will take place over the weekend of 5-7 March.

This comes just days after Roger Draper, the Lawn Tennis Association chief executive, claimed that would be happy for Murray to miss future Davis Cup ties as the Scot tries to win his maiden grand Slam and move further up the rankings.
