Dinara Safina Crashes Out of Rogers Cup

Dinara Safina became the latest top seed to crash out of the Rogers Cup as she lost to Aravane Rezai.

Since her disastrous performance in the French Open earlier in the year Dinara Safina has struggled with her form.

But she did start well as she raced away with the opening set 3-6. But she couldn't hold her form as she served up seventeen double faults throughout the three set match as Rezai fought back.

In the second set Safina's game crumbled as she managed to win just two games as the French woman levelled the match at one set a piece.

More of the same followed for the world number one as she was broken four time in the final set as Rezai clinched the match 3-6 6-2 6-4.

Safina's anger at her form was all too plain to see as she smashed her racquet down at the end of the match.

The eighth seed Caroline Wozniacki was another big name to crash out of the competition in Toronto as she lost in straight sets 7-5 6-3 to Zheng Jie.

These defeats come just a day after Venus Williams, Wimbledon finalist and number three seed, fell to qualifier Kateryna Bondarenko 1-6 7-5 6-4.
