Elena Baltacha couldn't find a way past Svetlana Kuznetsova as she fell tot he Russian in the second round at the U.S. Open.
Baltacha may have been playing the former French Open champion and the fifteenth seed but it was the Scot who made the best start as she got the early break to lead 3-0.
But she couldn't keep Kuznetsova at bay and once she allowed her to get back on level terms she never found a way back.
Errors started to creep into the Baltacha game mid way through the first set as Kuznetsova got over her poor start.
She took six of the last seven game of the set to take it 6-4. Into the second and Kuznetsova broke immediately.
And while Baltacha fought off the double break in the fifth she could hold back Kuznetsova in the ninth as she was broken again.
Kuznetsova wrapped up a straight sets 6-4 6-3 win to progress into the third round.
Speaking to the BBC after the match Baltacha said: "I started really well and then she got on her game and it was hard.
"She had so much shape on the ball, far more than what I thought, and it drew me back. And she moved unbelievably. She had a very good match today and I did the best that I could.
"If I could go out and play her again, would I do anything different? Yes, I would. I think I'd be more aggressive and I'd make more of an effort to push myself back onto the baseline."
Kuznetsova will now face Akgul Amanmuradova in the third round as she came through 6-3 7-5 against Pauline Parmentier.
There was also a straight forward win for world number one Caroline Wozniacki as she beat Arantxa Rus 6-2 6-0 to set up a third round clash with Varnia King.
