Feliciano Lopez crashed out of the If Stockholm Open in the opening round as he was soundly beaten in straight sets 6-2 6-2 at the hands of Florian Mayer.

Mayer, who is currently the world number forty seven, had six break point chances throughout his match with the sixth seeded Spaniard, converting four of those chances.

Mayer is currently riding a wave of success after a win over Mikhail Youzhny at the Shanghai Masters last week and it took him just fifty five minutes to dispatch Lopez.

Mayer will now face Michael Ryderstedt as he saw off Lopez's compatriot Daniel Gimeno-Rraver 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 to reach the second round.

And it wasn't good new for the Spanish fans in Stockholm yesterday as eighth seed Tommy Robredo was also sent packing by qualifier Ivan Dodig.

It was just a seventh tour win for Dodig but it was a confident performance as he won a whopping 90% of the points when his first serve went in.

He had five break point chances in the first set as he found a way through the Robredo defences, converting two of them to see him take the opener 6-3.

And it was more of the same in the second as two more break from the Croat saw him dump Robredo out of the tournament 6-3 6-2. Dodig will face either Jan Hajek or Tobias Kamke.

But there was good news for big serving American Taylor Dent as he progressed to the second round courtesy of a withdrawal from Michal Pryzsiezny after he rolled his ankle.

Dent has taken the first set 6-2 when Pryzsiezny was forced to retire. Dent will now face top seed Roger Federer for a place in the third round.

There were also wins for Arnaud Clement as he dropped just four games in a 6-0 6-4 win over Olivier Rochus, he will now face Ivan Ljubicic as he received a first round bye.

And Benjamin Becker looked to be in fine form as he defeated Thomas Schoorel 6-3 6-0 he will now face second seed Robin Soderling in the next round.
