Lleyton Hewitt Powers To Victory at Queens

Former world number one Lleyton Hewitt cruised to victory in the opening round of the Aegon Championships at Queen's Club.
Despite mixed for of late, due to recovery from a hip operation, Hewitt crushed Eduardo Schwank in straight sets 6-1 6-0 in just forty four minutes as he began his campaign to lift the title in London for the fifth time.
Joining him in the second round is Spaniard Feliciano Lopez who saw off America's Kendrick also in straight sets, but was pushed by the big hitting American as both sets went to a tie break.
However there was not good new for the two British wildcards as they both failed to progress into the second round.
Despite some good results in recent weeks Jamie Ward was no match for the impressive Marcus Baghdatis.
Ward just couldn't live with the pace and power of the popular Cypriot, who has struggled with form and injuries of late. He lost in straight sets 6-2 6-3.
Despite losing a better fight was made by Josh Goodall as he pushed Gilles Muller in the second set taking it to a tie break.
But Goodall was unable to convert his break point chances to take the second set eventually losing 9-7 in the tie break.
There were also wins for Ivan Ljubicic and Frederico Gil. And although the big names of Andy Murray and Andy Roddick were not involved in any singles action they were on court to play doubles.
It was a busy day for Hewitt as he teamed up with British number one Murray to take on the American team of Rajeev Ram and Roddick.
Despite dropping the opening set Hewitt and Murray battled back to take the second easily 6-3 only to fight out the third. They went on to win 3-6 6-3 12-10.
Murray is in action today against Andreas Seppi.
