Novak Djokovic Seals Win In Beijing

Novak Djokovic saw off the challenge from Marin Cilic to win the China Open title yesterday.

By winning the tournament in Beijing the Serb has now overtaken Andy Murray in the ATP rankings pushing the Scot down into fourth.

It had been an up and down tournament for Djokovic but he was one form yesterday as he overcame the talented Cilic, who had stunned Rafael Nadal the day before with a 6-1 6-3 win over the top seed.

At 2-2 the rain came and play was delayed for ninety minutes until Djokovic returned to court all guns blazing.

Cilic wouldn't win another game in the opening set as the second seed broke twice to take it 6-2.

It was a more closely fought affair in the second as Cilic, who also put Andy Murray out at the U.S. Open last month, showed the form for his impressive win the day before.

The pair traded breaks and a tie breaker was needed to decide the second set. Djokovic opened up a 4-2 lead in that tie break but need two match point chances before sealing his win.

He wrapped up the match 6-2 7-6 (7-4) to take his third ATP Tour tile of 2009.

Speaking after the match Djokovic said: "Even though it was a straight sets win, it could easily have gone the other way."

"I think I was a little bit saved by the rain delay. I got my nerves together and managed to play well."

He will now move on to the Shanghai Masters were he receives a bye in the first round.
