"But I am pleased with the way I am playing, and I am in the next round so that is the important thing.
"I am playing at the good level with my forehand when I touch the ball all the time. I try to do something - playing aggressive, playing long, changing the direction - so that's very important."
He will now play American John Isner in the next round as he overcame Sam Querrey 7-6 (7-3) 6-4.
However the big shock of the day came as Fernando Verdasco, the tenth seed, crashed out to Thomas Berdych 6-0 6-3.
